SUSTAINABLE COUCH started in 2011 and promotes sustainability within the hospitality networks, encouraging their members to become active. How?

  • sharing experiences and suggestions on sustainable hosting and surfing experiences
  • promoting best practice examples of sustainable communities
  • presenting sustainable travellers and their trips
  • creating an international network of members
  • helping to switch to a more sustainable lifestyle

Sustainable Hosting

Sustainable hosts care about the planet as much as they care about their guests. They share time and experiences and enrich each other’s lives.

HOSTS ARE PEOPLE who welcome “strangers” into their homes, host them and put efforts into making these experiences comfortable, safe, interesting and enriching for both parts (host and surfer).

"Sustainable” hosts can do even more, particularly considering the ecological, social and economic aspects of sustainability. Check out some examples:

Sustainable Surfing

Sustainable guests care about the planet as much as they care about their hosts. They share time and experiences and enrich the lives of others.

GUESTS ARE PEOPLE who receive hospitality by their hosts and are awareof the big credit of trust they are given. They try to make the surfing experiences comfortable, safe, interesting and enriching for both parts.

"Sustainable” guests can do even more, particularly by considering the ecological, social and economic aspects of sustainability.
Check out some examples and contact them to find your sustainable surfer:

  • Massi has travelled for 15 months in South America and will travel for 5 months in India
  • José currently on a RTW journey to explore fair-trade artisans, farmers and sustainable communities
  • Doris a travel journalist and travel blogger (read her blog)

...and many more members you can contact to find your sustainable surfer!

Sustainable Travelling

Travelling is an infinite source of life, adventure and new experiences. The way we travel is as important as our final destination.

TRAVELLING AND VISITING new places is something most of the people cannot imagine their lives without. Travelling is a fundamental source of experiences that enrich our lives.

Sustainable projects you can visit when you travel:

  • surf and volunteer at Felipe's eco-farm in Colombia
  • lend bikes for free in Berlin thanks to BikeSurfBerlin

Many more interesting projects and initiatives can be found in the archived newsletters.

How is it possible to combine our right and desire to travel with the need of not affecting the climate and having a sustainable impact on the local population? Let’s have a closer look at the concept of sustainable travelling.

Members

Signing up as a member represents the first step to have more sustainable hospitality experiences. The rest happens in every day, real life, while surfing, hosting, travelling, and living.

WHY CREATE A PROFILE?
One essential part of the motto of Sustainable Couch is: get active. Only by taking action we can start changing things.
